Pete Buchan Born
September 11, 1936 in Latrobe, Pennsylvania Pete attended Latrobe area schools and entered
the United States Air Force on July 13, 1954, serving in the U.S. and Europe. Upon being
discharged from the Air Force on April 13, 1958, Pete worked at an aluminum plant until
October.
Pete enlisted with the Pennsylvania State Police on October 28, 1958. After graduating
from the State Police Training School on Cocoa Ave in Hershey, PA, Pete was assigned to
the Plymouth Meeting substation on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. He remined at Plymouth
Meeting until December of 1959 when he was transferred to the Everett station, also
locateed on the Turnpike. In April 1963, Pete was transferred to Troop B-Washington where
he began working Patrol, Crime, and Vice.In December
of 1966, Pete was transferred to the Troop A- Greensburg Vice Unit. Pete was promoted to
Corporal in May of 1970 and was named Supervisor of the Greensburg Vice Unit. During the
years 1968-1969 Pete was detached to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation for undercover
work in Organized Crime. In July of 1971 Pete started a western Pennsylvania Narcotics
Detail and assumed command of the Region Five Strike Force. Pete was promoted to the rank
of Sergeant in July 1972. In October of 1980, Pete left the Narcotics division to return
to Greensburg where he assumed the roles of Traffic Sgt., Crime Sgt., Vice Sgt, and
Commander of the Somerset station.
Pete retired from the Pennsylvania State Police July 5, 1989.
